EIB grants a EUR 70 million loan to UfM-labelled project EuroMed University of Fes

The EIB has approved a EUR 70 million loan to support the EuroMed University of Fes (UEMF).  The loan represents a substantial contribution to the construction of the UEMF’s eco-campus. It will consolidate the regional dimension of the University, whose principal vocation is to build academic, scientific and intercultural bridges between the two shores of the Mediterranean.  

EIB supports first interconnection between Germany and Norway

The EIB will provide a EUR 350 million loan to TenneT Holding B.V. to finance “NordLink”, the first interconnection between Germany and Norway across the North Sea. The bipolar High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) link will have a capacity of 1,400 MW and a total route length of 624 km. It will improve diversification and security of supply and enhancing electricity market integration in both countries, and more widely between Northwest Europe and Scandinavian countries. It is also designated as a Project of Common Interest in the Priority Corridor Northern Seas Offshore Grid.

Belgium: EUR 600m in EU financing for new trains ordered by SNCB

The EIB has granted a EUR 600m loan to the SNCB (Société nationale des Chemins de fer Belges – Belgian National Railway Company) to invest in modernising its rolling stock. The new trains will provide comfort, service and safety to rail users across Belgium from September 2018. For the EIB, the operation aims to support and promote rail over road transport and falls under its priority objective of tackling climate change, of which developing sustainable transport is a part.  

EIB confirms EUR 200 million long-term loan to State Bank of India to support Indian large scale solar projects

The EIB today confirmed new support for solar power generation in India in partnership with the State Bank of India. The EUR 200 million (INR1,400 Crores) long-term loan will support total investment of EUR 650 million in five different large-scale photo-voltaic solar power projects and contribute to India’s National Solar mission and reduce dependence on fossil fuel power generation. Four schemes across the country, with a generation capacity of 530 MWac, have already been identified.

EIB grants a USD 82m loan to Bolivia to widen the Confital to Bombeo road to two lanes

The EIB will provide USD 82m to finance the construction of new two lanes per direction on the road connecting the Confital and Bombeo areas, forming part of the east-west corridor. This important route links the country’s three largest cities – La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz – while also connecting Bolivia with Brazil, Peru and Chile. To this end, the project will improve links both within the country and abroad. EIB Vice-President and head of Latin America Román Escolano and Bolivian Planning and Development Minister Mariana Prado signed the agreement today in Asunción, where the Inter-American Development Bank’s annual meeting is being held.
