US Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday said Israel’s building of settlements on occupied land was jeopardizing Middle East peace, voicing unusually frank frustration with America’s long-time ally weeks before he is due to leave office. Daesh supporters call for more holiday attacks in Europe

A pro-Daesh group on Wednesday urged supporters of the jihadists to carry out attacks on targets such as markets and hospitals in Europe over the Christmas holiday period and urged Muslims to stay away from Christian celebrations. Minister calls Tunisia’s youth to have for greater confidence in the state

Tunisian Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Majdouline Cherni, yesterday called for the restoration of confidence between youth and state institutions. “We must restore trust between Tunisian youth and state institutions,” Cherni said in remarks to the Anadolu Agency on the sidelines of the National Youth Congress. Israeli authorities demolish Palestinian structures in East Jerusalem

Israel’s Jerusalem municipality demolished Palestinian-owned structures in the occupied East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Silwan today, under the pretext that they lacked Israeli-issued building permits, according to local organisation the Wadi Hilweh Information Centre. The centre said that municipality crew, accompanied by Israeli police forces, destroyed three containers and a steel structure belonging to the Siyam family in the Ein Al-Luza neighbourhood of Silwan. The structures were being used for agricultural purposes. Local sources said that parts of a store – measuring some 10 square metres – belonging to the Abu Hadwan family was also demolished in the area. Bahrain activist Nabeel Rajab released then immediately re-arrested

A leading Bahraini human rights activist who is on trial for tweeting against the Bahraini political system was freed on bail today after spending months in detention. He was then immediately re-arrested in a separate case. The  latest figures from the Saudi Ministry of Interior show that there are 2,093 Saudi citizens abroad fighting for Daesh, with just under three quarters of them in Syria. In an interview with Saudi funded pan-Arab newspaper Al-Hayat, Mansoor Al-Turki, spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Interior, said that there are currently 1,540 Saudis fighting in Syria, 147 fighting in Yemen, 31 in Afghanistan and Pakistan, five in Iraq and 297 in various other parts of the world. He added that 73 people have been arrested in Saudi Arabia for terror related activities. “The figures we currently have on the number of Saudis joining Daesh are much lower than what most of us thought,” he said.

More than 180,000 illegal immigrants arrived in Italy in 2016

The number of illegal immigrants who arrived in Italy this year has increased by 18.21 per cent compared to last year to reach 180,392 people, the Italian Interior Ministry said in a report yesterday. This is the largest number of immigrants received by Italy. According to the report, 7,018 people have arrived in Italy every month, compared with 3,219 people in the same period of 2015. The numbers include 24,929 unaccompanied minors arrived in the country since the start of 2016. The report said a majority of the immigrants arrived through the ports of Augusta, Pozzallo, Catania, Messina, Reggio Calabria, Palermo, Trapani, all in the south of the country.
