Israeli police investigates officers accused of shooting an Arab MK

Israel’s Channel 10 television reported that the Police Internal Investigations Department, Machash has opened a criminal investigation into the case of shooting sponge-coated bullets against Ayman Odeh MK, head of the joint list, during the demolition of houses in the village of Umm al-Hieran in the Negev. The Israeli police initially claimed that Odeh’s injury was caused by stones thrown by the village residents. Machash has investigated three police officers in the case. Egyptian and US military officials discuss developments in Libya

The Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mahmoud Hegazy, met with US Marine Corps General and Commander of the US African Command, Thomas Waldhauser, as well as US Ambassador to Libya Peter Bodde to discuss developments in Libya and efforts to achieve reconciliation, on Tuesday. Ten African armies to join manoeuvres in Sudan

The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) held a conference, Monday, to plan for military exercises  in Sudan scheduled for November. In December 2015 ESAF announced that 5,000 troops were ready to be deployed whenever required to intervene in support of the Sudanese peace process. Representatives from Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Seychelles, the Comoros and Djibouti will participate in the conference. Libya GNA forces control areas east of Tripoli

Forces loyal to Libya’s Government of National Accord said they had taken controlled of the city of Castelverde, 75 kilometres east of Tripoli, after three days of confrontations with forces loyal to the Tripoli-based National Salvation Government. The Rebels of Tripoli battalion said in a statement on Facebook that it was now governed Castelverde, vital facilities surrounding it, fuel stations and its main gates after fierce fightings today. Death sentences of 12 Brotherhood members referred to Egypt’s Grand Mufti

An Egyptian court has referred the cases of 12 members of the Muslim Brotherhood to the Grand Mufti, the first step towards imposing a death sentence. The defendants are accused of storming the Matai police station and killing deputy chief Mustafa Al-Atar. The Minya Criminal Court has also set 7 August as the date to sentence the other 391 defendants on charges of involvement in the incidents. On 28 April 2014, the Minya Criminal Court sentenced 37 defendants to death, 394 to life terms and acquitted 17 others. The Moroccan Public Prosecutor ordered an investigation to be opened after video footage released online showed Nasser Zefzafi, leader of the Hirak Rif who is currently in detention, while he was half-naked.
