Al Jazeera is no longer Qatari

Angry global reactions regarding the demands to shut down Qatar’s Al Jazeera channel confirm that the channel is no longer Qatari, except in the understanding of us Arabs. It has gained the attention of viewers across the world, not only with its news coverage in Arabic, or even through its well-known sports coverage, but through Al Jazeera English. Therefore, the world considers demands to shut down the channel to be a further set back suffered by the region in terms of freedom of press, human rights and dictatorships in general. These dictatorships are no longer limited to the governments of ruling families, as the republics have become no less of a dictatorship, even exceeding them at times. No one can […]

Saudi sets condition for arms purchase from Russia

Moscow and Riyadh have signed a preliminary military cooperation agreement worth $3.5 billion, Russia Today (RT) reported today, quoting the CEO of Russia’s Rostec Corporation, Sergei Chemezov. “Within the framework of the new round of talks, we have reached a preliminary agreement worth $3.5 billion,” Chimezov said, pointing out that the Saudi government has imposed some conditions for the implementation of the deal. Saudi Arabia, Chimezov added, has however stipulated that the deal will come into effect on condition that Moscow provide Riyadh with transfer of technology and start manufacturing in the kingdom. Egypt kills 6 suspected militants in shootout

Egyptian security forces have killed six suspected militants sympathetic to Daesh in a shootout in the southern province of Assiut, an Interior Ministry said today. It did not say when the incident took place. Read: Sisi’s terrorism The apartment was “an organisational base where [the group] was preparing to carry out a series of terrorist operations in the provinces,” the statement said. On Friday, Egypt saw one of the worst attacks on its security forces in years when 23 soldiers were killed after two suicide car bombs were detonated in North Sinai.

Sisi’s terrorism

The Egyptian people woke up on Friday morning to the news of a terrorist bombing in northern Sinai, killing 26 officers and soldiers and wounding 40 others. Among the dead was Brigadier General Ahmad Al-Mansi, commander of the Thunderbolt Forces. This raises a serious question, as the Thunderbolt Forces do not enter this area. Then, the military statement suddenly changed and did not mention the same things mentioned in their first statement regarding the bombing of a military unit in a suicide bombing. They announced the death of 40 takfirists who attacked the unit. They then leaked a voice recording of Brigadier General Ahmad Al-Mansi asking for help after the unit was destroyed, saying that they will not leave their […]

Rights group to appeal ruling declaring UK arms sale to Saudi lawful

Campaigners who today lost their case in the British High Courts to suspend arms trade with Saudi Arabia will appeal the decision. This morning, a British court ruled that the UK can continue to sell arms to Saudi Arabia despite “overwhelming evidence” that UK-made weapons are being used during military campaigns that violate International Humanitarian Law, including the bombing of hospitals. “This is a very disappointing verdict,” said Andrew Smith of Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT), “and we are pursuing an appeal.” If this verdict is upheld then it will be seen as a green light for government to continue arming and supporting brutal dictatorships and human rights abusers like Saudi Arabia that have shown a blatant disregard for international […]

The Aden-based Southern Transitional Council is ready to govern the provinces in the south of the country if the government of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi fails to do so, the group said yesterday.
