Israeli media sources said that the Israeli Knesset member Itzik Shmuli (the Zionist Union) is planning to submit a bill on Wednesday for Israel’s official recognition the genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire during the First World War.

Israeli radio said that the presentation of the bill came against the backdrop of “the renewed crisis with Turkey after the events in Gaza, the attacks of President Erdogan on Tel Aviv and the return of the Turkish and Israeli ambassadors and consuls to their countries.”

The comprehensive bill provides that the Knesset will formally recognize the genocide and will set a special day each year. Shmuli said that the bill came in the light of what he said was “the height of incitement by Turkey and its president Erdogan against Israel.”
